Anaesthetist Jobs at Dr Gray’s Hospital

Looking for a rewarding anaesthetic career with an excellent work-life balance? Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin offers a unique opportunity to join a dynamic, expanding team in one of Scotland’s most highly regarded District General Hospitals.

Join Our Expanding Team

We are doubling the size of our consultant anaesthetist team, increasing from six to twelve Whole Time Equivalent (WTE). This expansion will strengthen our high-quality, consultant-led anaesthetic service and open up exciting new opportunities for clinical development.

About the Role

Our anaesthetists provide elective and emergency services across a broad range of specialities, including:

  • General Surgery, Orthopaedic Trauma, Gynaecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental Surgery, and Paediatric Surgery (for children over two)

Our anaesthetists also play a vital role in resuscitation, stabilisation, and patient transfers to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Dr Gray’s has a combined medical and surgical High Dependency Unit with eight beds.

North of Scotland Retrieval Service

In April 2019, ScotSTAR opened a new North of Scotland critical care team and transfer/retrieval hub (Emergency Medical Retrieval Service North). Featured on Channel 4’s ‘Extreme Medics,’ it’s part of the Scottish Trauma Network, providing retrieval services for critically ill patients. Patients are stabilised by the Dr Gray’s team prior to retrieval. If the EMRS team is unavailable, an anaesthetist from Dr Gray’s Hospital may be required to carry out the transfer.

Professional Growth & Specialist Opportunities

We encourage the development of specialist interests within the team, including regional anaesthesia, airway management, and pre-hospital medicine. Our close links with the Alexander Graham Bell Centre for Digital Health provide access to modern training facilities and simulation-based learning.

Flexible job planning is supported, with opportunities to shape your role according to your skills and career aspirations.
