This new post has arisen within the Moray Nutrition and Dietetic Team due to a re-design of the Moray Maternity Service.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is keen to develop a new dietetic role. The successful candidate will work in a forward-thinking and dynamic Dietetic Department that supports and leads the way in transformational ways of working. The department works closely together as one team, supports remote working and puts in place values and ways of working which focus on delivering not only excellent dietetic care but also supports the health and well-being and the continuous professional development of its dietetic workforce.

About the role:

The post holder will take a lead role in further developing and modernising the dietetic service provision to the re-designed maternity service in Moray. They will lead, co-ordinate, develop and continually improve a specialist maternity dietetic service for people in Moray, including Dr Gray’s Hospital and the community. They will provide dietetic care for people who require dietetic intervention during pre-conception, during pregnancy and post-partum.

Working in partnership with other allied health professionals, nursing, medical staff midwives, health visitors, psychology and catering staff they will provide a specialist maternity dietetic service to referred patients and/or carers.

They will undertake to plan, organise, conduct and evaluate training sessions/courses for medical, midwife, nursing, health visiting and other staff as required.

There will be regular close liaison with the local multi-disciplinary maternity teams across acute and community services. Clinical responsibilities will be varied and will include consultant-led, dietetic-led clinics, patient groups and training sessions.

This post holder will also provide support, supervision and training for less experienced staff and students to allow them to gain knowledge and skills in dietetic interventions during pre-conception, during pregnancy and post-partum.

Our department has recently undergone a period of re-design and this post will provide an integral clinical aspect to our future service plans and to the department’s profile as AHP leaders within Moray’s Integrated Joint Board.

This role will suit someone who has a specialist interest in diabetes and obesity within pregnancy.

About Dr Gray’s Hospital:

Dr. Gray’s Hospital, Scotland’s smallest District General Hospital, is rich in history and character. The original building, dating back to 1819, is still in use for some practices. Additionally, a new hospital was opened in 1995 and undergoes continuous upgrades and development.

There are 181 beds – 153 inpatient, a 15 bed surgical day unit case and 13 ambulatory care beds serving a catchment population of about 132,000 spread between Forres and Macduff along the coast, and inland as far as Huntly and Tomintoul. Our hub tertiary centre (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary) is located 65 miles to the east.

The hospital has approximately 35 consultants working in the acute sector.

About the service:

We have a dietetic department made up of 15 dietitians, 2 dietetic support workers and 2 administration staff which spans both the acute and community settings in Moray. The Moray dietetic service works closely with other dietetic services across Grampian and provides some joint service delivery.

Remote and rural dietetics is now the norm in the department with a focus on high-quality service delivery. The department uses well-established digital platforms, uses electronic records and is involved in transforming dietetic care delivery using new innovative ways of working via the Moray Rural Centre of Excellence, the Digital Health Innovation Centre and the Glasgow School of Art.

From our two office bases in Elgin, the Dietetic Team in Moray provides an integrated adult and paediatric nutrition and dietetics service for a busy acute general hospital (Dr Gray’s Hospital), four community hospitals, virtual ward at-home and community/primary care for the wider Moray community area which includes out-patient clinics, care homes, home visits and remote working using new and emerging digital technologies via the Rural Centre for Excellence and Digital Health and Innovation Centre.
